Research, Research, Research!

Hello students and parents!  We have had an exciting two weeks! We have been researching and finding out all kinds of neat information about our topics.  Students in my morning class chose an animal to research, while the students in my afternoon class chose a state in the United States.  This week we are working on completing our research booklets, creating a Wordle, and presenting our information on a poster.
*** Parents, please ask your child what their topic is and have your child explain a little about what he/she has learned.  I am sure he/she would love to share with you!

***Students please post a comment below.....Here is your topic:
Students, post 2 interesting facts about your research topic.

I look forward to reading all of your posts!  Happy researching!!!!

                                                                             Joyfully,

                                                                                  Mrs. Boehme

Dear Students and Families,

Wow! It has been a long time since I have posted! Things are finally starting to slow down, with all of the excitement of a newborn and all :)  My husband and I have finally got the hang of parenthood and love our new little boy more than words can say!  Thank you all for your support while I was out and the warm welcomes when I returned.  I hope that you all have had a FANTASTIC Thanksgiving break, I know that I have!  When we return to school on Monday, we will be working hard to get as much learning in before yet another holiday break.  We will be reading stories, writing stories/poems/journal entries/etc., visiting the library, and more! We will still be focusing on nonfiction (things that are real or actually happened).  Take a look around at how much nonfiction you read or watch on TV everyday!  Many stories or articles in magazines, newspapers, and some television shows such as the news are nonfiction.  We also will be doing many fun holiday activities which I will be posting more information on as the days pass.  I look forward to a wonderful December! Please feel free to post a comment about what you and your family did over the Thanksgiving holiday! I'd love to read them!
                                                                                                    Joyfully,
                                                                                                            Mrs. Boehme

Spring Break 2011

Hi students!  I hope that you are all having a wonderful Spring Break!  I know that I am! I have had a lot of much needed time to rest and relax!  (Now it's time to do housework...yuck!! haha).  I am excited to get back to school to do our final preparations for the TAKS tests that will be taken at the end of April.  We will be working hard each day to make sure that all students are ready to pass!  I know that you ALL can do it if you always do your best and give it your all.  After the TAKS we will have many fun activities in May, such as "Fun Day," Field Day, Pool Day, etc. We must get through the tests first and then we can have some fun!  So enjoy the rest of your break and I will see you bright and early Monday Morning :)

Ramona and Her Father

Hi students!  This week we are reading Ramona and Her Father.  In this story Ramona's father loses his job and the family tries to think of solutions to this problem.  Ramona & Beezus thought of baby-sitting, opening a lemonade stand, or making perfume.   Mrs. Quimby got a full time job at a doctor's office.  Ramona also thought about staring in her own commercial to make money.  If you were going to try to make some extra money what would you do?

Be sure to write in COMPLETE sentences with capitalization and punctuation!  I'm looking forward to reading your ideas!

Trickster Tales

Hi students!  I hope that you have been staying warm with all of this cold weather! This week we have been doing rotations and reading "trickster tales."  We have read Puss and Boots, Turtle and Deer, Androcles and the Lion, Borreguita and the Coyote, and several Three Little Pig books.

My question for you............

Which "trickster tale" was your favorite and WHY?

Stone Soup

Picture from Google images

Hi students!  This week we are going to begin learning about procedural text (or following directions/recipes) to get something done.  The story we are going to read is a fictional story called Stone Soup.  In this story people follow a soup recipe to create a nice pot of soup.  Throughout the following weeks we will be looking at lots of recipes and other directions to make sure we are following them carefully.  I know many of you have some experience following recipes and we ALL have experience following some kind of directions.
Here's my question........

What is a food that you have followed a recipe to make OR what is something you have followed directions to put together/build/create?

Go West!

Hi students!  This week we have been reading an expository (nonfiction) text called Go West.  In this we learned a lot about how and why railroads were built across the United States and why people decided to start traveling West.  Here's my question for the week:

If you were given a train ticket to anywhere in the United States, where would you like to go and WHY?

I look forward to reading your responses :)

Penguin Chick

Hi students!  I really enjoyed reading all of your comments about your Christmas break!  Let's be sure to practice those grammar skills that we learned as we write comments (write in complete sentences, capatilize the first letter of a sentence, and use a punctuation mark at the end of your sentence).  Please always be sure to answer in complete sentences. :)
This past week we read a wonderful narrative nonfiction (expository) story this week called Penguin Chick.  This story taught us many new things about penguins even though many of you knew a lot from watching movies such as Happy Feet or from watching Animal Planet (one of my favorite channels).

Here is the question I'd like you to answer:

** What was the fact that YOU found the most interesting/fun from the story Penguin Chick?

Welcome Back!

Hi students!  Welcome back to school! I hope that you all had a wonderful break!  I know that I did.  Now that we are in January, we will be studying hard to get prepared for the TAKS tests that we will take at the end of April.  You will take a math test and a reading test just like you do when we "benchmark test."  I know that if you try your best the focus these next few months, you will do an Owlstanding job on the TAKS!  Before we get to that, I'd like to know what your favorite part of your time off from school was....I'll get us started....I did many things over the holiday break from school like read, watch tv, shop, and clean house.  My two favorite parts of the break were getting to sleep late in the morning and spend so much time at home with my family. Please comment about what your favorite part of the break was. I'm looking forward to reading your responses!
